As New Hampshire’s State Senator for District 10, Molly Kelly has built a reputation as an independent voice, working seamlessly and successfully with both Democrats and Republicans to find common-sense solutions to the problems facing New Hampshire and the Nation.

Since her election to the Senate in 2006, Senator Kelly’s bi-partisan approach has succeeded in building a significant record of legislative accomplishments – strengthening the role of education in our state and ensuring safety in our schools which, in turn, secures the health and prosperity of local businesses; guaranteeing gay marriage as a civil right; and protecting the natural resources of New Hampshire.

In the 2009-1010 biennial session, as Chair of the Senate Education Committee, Senator Kelly is advancing her passion for education with the passage of Senate Bill 180, which established an accountability system to ensure the opportunity for an adequate education for all our children. Through Senator Kelly‘s efforts, and in partnership with her colleagues, the 20-year funding conflict has been resolved and all mandates by the NH Supreme Court have been addressed, putting to rest decades of litigation.

While serving on the Health & Human Services Committee, legislation was passed that strengthens the Healthy Kids Corporation (SB 115) Program, establishing a young adult “buy in” program providing affordable health insurance with no gaps. She also supported the use of medical marijuana for medicinal purposes.

Senator Kelly sponsored a tax credit bill to help small New Hampshire businesses create new jobs by encouraging and promoting the sustainability of advanced manufacturing and “energy efficient” products – one of the most important slices of the New Hampshire’s economy.

In a stunning bi-partisan victory, Senator Kelly sponsored what has become known as the “auto dealer bill of rights”. SB 153 provides additional financial and legal protections for local auto dealers, their employees and consumers. This includes oversight of the broker-dealer community, regular review and evaluation of marketing materials and regulatory examinations, thereby ensuring the protection and long-term health of Cheshire County’s automobile dealerships.

Through her efforts, Senator Kelly has been a vital force in balancing the state budget, focusing on helping the people of New Hampshire through these difficult times and spurring the state’s economy. The budget reflects New Hampshire values: 100% funding for education, 100% funding for school building aid. And the budget prioritizes the most vulnerable among us, while also protecting the vitality of our state’s families and businesses.

A Keene resident for more than 28 years, Senator Kelly’s passion for serving her community began when, as a university student at Purdue, she became a member of the Service Corp. Working with other college students throughout New England to effectively transition residents from state hospitals into their communities, she then chose to work and live in group homes for adults with cerebral palsy, later becoming a leader with the LaLeche League, advocating for new families by working with the medical profession encouraging a woman’s ability to choose their childbirth and breastfeeding experience.

A single mother of three, Senator Kelly completed her Bachelor’s degree at Keene State College, receiving her Juris Doctor of Law degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center. She went on to become the director of Franklin Pierce College’s Keene campus, and the director of Monadnock Hospice for the Monadnock Region. Senator Kelly has more than twelve years experience as a financial advisor. She was elected to the New Hampshire State Senate in 2006.
